Several bird species have been added across the different biomes of Pax Dei: Grouses, Ptarmigans, Pheasants, Geese, Vultures, and Eagles.

Birds roam on the ground and react to nearby players. When disturbed, they will take flight.

They can be hunted both on the ground and in the air, though they are especially challenging to hunt without a bow.

Birds provide feathers, which are used in Fletching for advanced arrow crafting.

Added a new family of Recurve Bows, ranging from Tier 2 to Tier 4.

Recurve Bows provide increased accuracy, faster arrow speed, and more serious damage, but have slower draw and reload times than standard bows.

Higher-tier bows now also provide improved accuracy and faster draw and reload times.

All existing bows have received updated visual models, with color variations for attuned and warded versions.

The former Curved Bow has been renamed Woodrunner Bow to align with its new model and clearly differentiate it from the Recurve series.

This release adds new ground-standing and wall-mounted archery targets.

When hit by nearby players, the target announces the hit accuracy, allowing you to practice your aim or organize archery competitions.

: When entering the game, you will likely receive a large number of Achievement notifications. You can silence them by pressing N.

The game now features an Achievement system, with content designed both to guide new players through the game and to offer harder-to-complete goals for elder players.

Achievements are shared across your account by Region (US, EU, SEA). This means that if one of your characters on an EU world completes an Achievement, all your other EU characters will also have it, but your characters in the US or SEA region will not.

This release includes almost 300 Achievements. Some are very easy to attain, while others are extremely hard.

The game HUD now includes a milestone tracker showing the Achievements you are currently working toward.

Achievements can be manually added to the tracker, but the auto-tracked new player experience achievements take priority.

Each Achievement grants a reward when completed.

Achievements that track skill level requirements will unlock retroactively for players who have already reached the required skill level. All other Achievements require you to complete the associated task after the system is live.

Achievements that require a PvE kill work similarly to XP grants: everyone in the party of the player who kills the enemy will count as having killed that enemy for Achievement tracking purposes.

We've been working for a long time on revamping the underlying permission system in Pax Dei, and this release includes the first changes from that work.

Clans now have a new Homesteader membership rank for new clan members.

In permissions, you can now set the required access permission to Villager & Up, locking Homesteaders out.

For plots, even if a plot has been shared with a Clan, Homesteaders cannot destroy building pieces placed more than 36 hours ago.

There is one exception: if the piece is a prop (a furnishing piece), such as a chest, placed by the Homesteader themselves, they can destroy it, as it is their own prop.

This restriction does not apply to plots set to Public or to plots owned by the Homesteader themselves.

A future version of the game will improve this mechanic and give you more granular control over destruction permissions.

We will continue to roll out additional permissions improvements in future releases.

The game now features a Province-wide chat channel, allowing you to chat across Home Valleys.

The chat message layout has been made more compact, allowing more messages to fit on screen.

Chat channels now show how many messages are waiting to be read since you last opened them.

Multiple consecutive messages from the same sender, sent within one minute, are now grouped together.

General chat feed settings, where you can choose which chat feeds are displayed in the General feed, have moved to the Chat Settings menu.

You can now separately configure which chat channels show a HUD notification when a new message is received, and how long those notifications are displayed.

When a player logs in, other players can now receive a notification that they have come online. You can configure whether your own logins send this notification, and whether you want to see login notifications from other players.

When a new player joins Pax Dei, a notification is now sent. Remember to welcome them to the game!

The game client now uses new fonts with improved readability (named Lora and Fira Sans).

Areas near the Petra Dei now spawn some Flint, and the distance from water at which Flint can spawn has been expanded by 10 meters.

Garlic spawn yield has been increased from 3 to 5.

The Bronze Ingot recipe now requires 60 Charcoal instead of 100 Sapwood.

All furnishing pieces have been moved from the Log Workbench to the Basic Carpenter Workbench or the relevant workbenches: the archery target to the fletching workbenches, the trophies to the leatherworking workbenches, etc.

Adult Birch Trees' hardness has been lowered from 2 to 1, meaning you can now chop them down with a Bronze Chopping Axe.

NPCs can teleport towards the player while affected by Ironroot Grasp or Netfall.

: Placing crafting stations at the very edge of the plot may make them inaccessible and indestructible.

Some crafting stations and processing crafters have excessively slow loading and interaction times.

Targeting stacked or packed containers has become unreliable, and nearby objects can block interaction.

No warning message is displayed when Homesteader attempts to destroy construction pieces.

The new animation, when dropping an item from the inventory, interrupts mining and chopping.

The silver bracelet loses durability when not used.

The Cinematic and Epic settings for Streaming Distance can cause severe performance issues in dungeons. We recommend setting Streaming Distance to High before entering a dungeon.

There is a known issue with the Anti-Aliasing and Super Resolution selection. If you change the mode (DLSS, FSR, TSR) in the Graphics settings, you need to restart the game for the change to take effect.

 may not function correctly on some AMD Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, resulting in little or no performance improvement. Potential workaround (thanks to a Discord member): To use FSR 4.1 with Frame Generation, AMD users may achieve better results by disabling the in-game Frame Generation option and enabling AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) in the Adrenalin software instead.

Bonfires and the new Pyre have very low audio.

Healing staves have no sound effect when shooting.

Battle Axe, Great Mace, and Greatsword models pass through the player's head when block is released.

Achievement is currently not retroactive. The (cheesy) workaround is to create a second character on the same account and create/join a Clan with that character.

Achievement cannot currently be completed because the Sooty Grouse (Spruce Grouse) is missing from the game.

Please update your graphics drivers to the latest version. Some Unreal Engine 5.6 improvements may not work correctly with outdated drivers. 

This update is mostly focused on improvements and fixes under the hood. Much of the work has gone into addressing long-standing bugs, improving overall stability and performance, and laying the groundwork for faster development.

One of the biggest, though less visible, parts of this update has been the upgrade from Unreal Engine 5.4 to 5.6. This transition brings a wide range of stability, performance, and engine-level improvements, many of which are listed below. While this kind of work is not always immediately noticeable in moment-to-moment gameplay, it is an important step toward improving the game’s overall reliability and helping us move faster in the future.

Several gameplay systems have also been revisited, most notably NPC behavior, which has suffered from several issues that negatively impacted the overall PvE experience, and particularly in dungeons. These updates aim to make encounters more reliable, consistent, and enjoyable overall.

We’ve also updated parts of the interface. These changes are aimed not only at resolving issues you’ve reported, but also at making future content easier to develop and helping us address structural problems that have been slowing development over time.

While this update may not be massive in terms of visible new content, the amount of work behind it has been significant. At the same time, we’ve also been working in parallel on broader gameplay improvements, and we’ll be sharing more about those soon. 

One final note before diving into the details: we’ll now use an internal naming convention for small patches. As such, this update is called R46.

The aggro system has been entirely reviewed and debugged. These changes are aimed at making PvE combat more predictable, readable, and fair by clarifying how NPCs detect players, call for assist, maintain combat, and drop aggro.

NPCs now use distinct vision, hearing, and assist ranges, with clearer rules governing Direct Aggro and Assist Aggro. Players passing near ongoing fights should no longer unintentionally pull enemies unless they actively engage or support players already in combat.

We are especially looking for feedback on edge cases involving walls, verticality, pathing, and adjacent spaces to help us further refine the system.

4.5 Super Resolution and Frame Generation with Reflex, for up to 4X generated frames on supported GPUs.

Unreal 5.6 and the latest FSR and DLSS play along much better than earlier versions, so both image quality and performance are improved from before.

In particular, upscaled graphics are now much crisper than before, so you can enjoy the game with improved performance with no visual degradation.

We've upgraded Pax Dei's underlying engine from Unreal Engine 5.4 to 5.6. While this doesn't introduce new game features, it brings substantial under-the-hood improvements that directly affect your gameplay experience.

 The global illumination and reflection systems that give PaxDei its realistic lighting have been heavily optimized for hardware ray tracing. Epic specifically targeted consistent 60 fps on current-generation hardware, freeing up CPU budget for gameplay.

 Virtual Shadow Maps now use smarter culling and caching, reducing GPU cost, especially in dense scenes with many buildings and trees.

 The system that renders millions of polygons for our world terrain and architecture now has better instance culling and draw distance management, reducing per-frame cost in crowded areas.

 More rendering work is now distributed across CPU cores, reducing single-thread bottlenecks that could cause frame dips.

 Entering new areas is smoother. Physics, terrain, and geometry registration can now run asynchronously, preventing spikes when loading new world cells.

 Parallel processing and caching for texture/mesh streaming reduce visual pop-in as you move through the world.

 GPU memory management for the Nanite streaming pool and virtual textures is now more graceful, avoiding sudden stalls from buffer resizes.

 Numerous crash fixes and improvements to the replication system reduce disconnects and desync, particularly around object destruction, ownership transfers, and server transitions.

 Multithreaded collision detection, partial sleeping islands, and improved scene queries make the physics simulation more robust under heavy load (large battles, many players on structures).

 Navmesh generation and streaming are more stable, reducing cases where NPCs could path incorrectly after world streaming events.

 Multiple memory leaks in rendering (hair/groom streaming, sparse volume textures, GPU scene data) have been resolved, improving long-session stability.

 A new reflection denoiser produces cleaner, less ghosted reflections on water, metal, and polished surfaces.

 Lumen's temporal accumulation is more stable, reducing flickering on foliage and fine geometry. Surface cache updates are now distance-driven, keeping nearby lighting more accurate.

Improved Temporal Super Resolution (TSR):

 Thin geometry like foliage and hair is more stable, with less patch flickering. Banding artifacts from precision limits have been addressed.

 Short-range AO now runs at half resolution with a denoiser, making it twice as fast while maintaining quality.

 Small objects replicate faster with better bandwidth utilization, benefiting item interactions in populated areas.

 Fixes around async destruction, dormancy flushing, and component replication reduce edge-case desyncs that could affect inventory or building state.

 Resimulation is optimized, and render interpolation for networked physics is smoother.

These improvements work automatically:  no settings changes are needed on your end. If you previously adjusted graphics settings to improve performance, this may be a good time to try raising them again.
