<p>Hello Paxians,</p><p>Today, we want to talk about one of the new features coming out with Verse 3 - Path of the Adventurer - and how, combined with other changes we’ve introduced over the last few months, it opens the option to play Pax Dei without a plot — and therefore, without a subscription. </p><p>Yes, you read correctly. We&#39;ve listened closely to your feedback and decided to adjust our approach to monetization. We don’t yet have all the details to share, but we can already confirm that, as we exit Early Access, <b>we will offer a way to play Pax Dei without a subscription</b>.</p><h2>New spawning zones</h2><p>With Verse 3, we will start to introduce new <b>Petra Dei spawning zones</b>. </p><ul><li><p>Each spawning area will now feature starting crafting stations, allowing all players to craft basic (aka Tier 1) items.</p></li><li><p>At a later point, the altars in front of Petra Dei will grant access to private storage. While each Petra Dei altar offers unique storage, it will be shared across all your characters on a given shard/world.</p></li></ul><img src="//images.ctfassets.net/96ostmeapxb7/2Kbq4Gs1Y6rG7gEF6SZD9R/b9f0da9566cda7f6284ec82156759937/Spawning_zone_1920x1080.jpg?fm=webp&w=1024" width="1920" height="1080" alt="Pax Dei Spawning zone" /><p>These changes are meant to make discovering the game easier. New players will be able to craft basic equipment and start their adventures sooner, but this also opens a way to play Pax Dei without the need for a personal plot.</p><h2>Playing without a plot</h2><p>Playing without a personal plot won’t hold you back. We’ve been introducing, and will keep adding in the coming weeks and months, a number of changes to the game to allow plot-less play, along with reinforcing game loops that don’t rely on plot ownership: </p><ul><li><p>The <b>Clan system</b> already allows players to share plot permissions with their Clan mates.</p></li><li><p>The recent introduction of the <b>Gold economy</b> enables players to buy gear and consumables from other players, without having to craft everything themselves.</p></li><li><p>Finally, the new <b>Petra Dei spawning zone</b> will offer limited individual storage to each player, and their surroundings will feature basic crafters for public use.</p></li></ul><p>Allowing all play styles to connect and complement each other is one of the core tenets behind Pax Dei. If you’re the kind of player that prefers fighting Inquisitors, wants to specialize in dungeon crawling, or simply likes to hang out with friends and help them in their projects, we wanted to open a way to enjoy Pax Dei without having to own and maintain your personal plot — and therefore <b>without a monthly subscription</b>.</p><h2>Introducing: <i>Premium Membership</i></h2><p>For those who do want their own personal plot(s), we will introduce the <i>Premium Membership</i> program. It will offer several <i><u>entirely optional</u></i> subscription plans. Premium Members will enjoy various in-game benefits - we’re still working on finalizing the offer - the most important being the <u>ability to claim and maintain in-game plots</u>.</p><p>By picking the<i> Premium Membership</i> plan that best suits their needs, players will choose how many plots they want to claim in-game. If they decide to cancel, the space will be freed up for other players at the end of the subscription period, and the content of the plot will be stored in the player’s Redeeming Queue, allowing players to quickly rebuild in a new location when they decide to come back.</p><p>Purchasing Pax Dei will include a free month of <i>Premium Membership</i> with 1 plot.</p><h2>Founders at launch</h2><p><u>Founders don’t need to purchase anything at launch.</u> As we exit Early Access, Founders will automatically receive game access, keep their exclusive recipes and the number of character slots they have now, as well as get a free month of <i>Premium Membership</i> with a number of plots corresponding to their Founder’s Pack (1, 2 or 4).</p><p>We’ve aimed for a balance that offers <b>flexibility</b>, multiple ways to engage with Pax Dei based on your play style, and <b>sustainability</b>, ensuring the most engaged players can support the project long-term.</p><p>We’ll share more details on how <i>Premium Membership</i> works, its bonuses and pricing as we get closer to release. <h3>Hello Paxians!</h3><p>As some of you have noticed in the <a href="https://playpaxdei.com/fr-fr/news/game-updates/the-road-ahead-roadmap-update" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">latest roadmap update</a>, quite a few changes to the world of Pax Dei have been announced for the upcoming Verse 3. This means that a wipe is also coming with Verse 3. </p><h2>Why is there going to be a wipe?</h2><p>We are making substantial changes to the world, gear and crafting progression, along with combat skills for Verse 3, and we cannot deploy those changes without a wipe. This wipe is also a good opportunity to remove all inactive plots and “ghost towns”. </p><h2>When will we know more about the actual coming changes?</h2><p>We are planning a series of spotlights that will be published in the weeks leading up to the release of Verse 3. Stay tuned for all the details! </p><h2>What is being wiped?</h2><p>We are doing a very wide wipe, which means that:</p><ul><li><p>The world geography will change, and there will be more Heartlands (aka Home Valleys) per Province.</p></li><li><p>Your placed plots will be removed.</p></li><li><p>All your belongings on your plot and in your inventory will be removed.</p></li><li><p>All the gear worn by your character will disappear.</p></li><li><p>Clans will be wiped and will need to be recreated.</p></li><li><p>All character combat skills will be reset.</p></li><li><p>Crafting skills may be partially or fully reset. This is still being discussed, and we will provide more details as soon as possible.</p></li></ul><p><b>Note: your Gold and Grace will not be reset. </b></p><p>As the world is changing, each shard will allow for more characters than they do now. As such, we will open one shard in each region, at first, and will continue to open more as these are filled up. Note that we won’t have an RP shard from the start, but might open one at a later stage. We will use the same shard names as before.</p><h3>LIST PER REGION </h3><p><b>EU</b>: Mimir

<b>SEA</b>: Nuadu </p><h2>What compensation do we get as players?</h2><p>We know a major wipe like this might make some players think twice about coming back and testing the newly added features and revamped world. As such, we plan to compensate you in several ways.</p><p>First of all, as per previous wipes, we will use the redeeming queue to compensate for the items you’ve accumulated in the game. Due to the extensive changes to the game economy in this update most, if not all, items will be converted into the resources from which they were crafted (assuming the resource still exists in the new economy). We aim to compensate for all types of items: </p><ul><li><p>All furnishings that were on your plots.</p></li><li><p>All components used to make building pieces and crafting stations that were placed on your plots.</p></li><li><p>All items stored in containers placed on your plots.</p></li><li><p>All processing crafters on your plots and the materials for each task. Only the materials placed in the crafters will be returned - the output will not be returned, even if the task is completed.</p></li><li><p>All items in market stalls will be returned to sellers.</p></li></ul><p>Note: The compensation of all potential item types and conversion to materials is somewhat complicated. While this is our aim, we may need to make some adjustments as we build and test this. We will inform you of any changes to the compensation plan. Also, please note that we will not be able to fully compensate for materials used in items, weapons, equipment, resources, etc., as some will be removed from the game with this update.</p><p><b>However, we will grant 100 Grace to all accounts once the content update is deployed. </b></p><h2>What will happen when Verse 3 is released and maintenance is over?</h2><p>Once the content update is fully deployed:</p><ul><li><p>The world will have changed, so you’ll need to find a new location for your plot(s). We’ll try to publish the updated maps as early as possible.</p></li><li><p> Your character will keep their name and appearance, but when logging in for the first time:</p></li><li><p>They’ll be “naked” as if they were a newly created character.</p></li><li><p>They won’t be part of a clan anymore.</p></li><li><p>They’ll need to choose a new name if their initial name is already taken, as it will be on a first-come, first-served basis.</p></li><li><p>All compensated materials will be available in your redeeming queue, except for items that have been removed from the game with this content update.</p></li><li><p>You will need to recreate your clan and invite all members again.  </p></li></ul><p>Since you’re not changing the shard structure, do you plan to open character transfers between shards of the same geographic region?</p><p>Since only one shard will be opened per region at first, no character transfer will be offered. That might change when more shards are opened later on. </p><h2>When will the wipe be confirmed?</h2><p>We will confirm the full details of the wipe at least one week before the content update is released. </p><h2>When is Verse 3 expected?</h2><p>As mentioned in the roadmap, Verse 3 should go live this spring, so by the end of June. We cannot commit to an exact timeline right now as we are still finalizing the development of crucial features and changes. We do not want to announce a date only to have to move it later. </p><h2>Is this the last wipe before release?</h2><p>The wipe accompanying Verse 3 should indeed be the last wipe before the “release” wipe. Note that this may change depending on the game&#39;s development.  </p><h2>What will happen at release?</h2><p>When Pax Dei is released out of Early Access, we’ll start with fresh new worlds and will perform a total database wipe. Everything will be deleted: plots, characters, and items; redeeming queues will be wiped, and Gold and Grace will be reset. At release, everyone, Founders and newcomers alike, will start their adventure in the world of Pax Dei from scratch.</p><p>We hope this clarifies the situation and answers the concerns some of you may have had regarding the upcoming content update. We will, of course, communicate a deployment date as soon as possible, so you can be fully prepared for when the wipe occurs and new content arrives. </p><p>Pax vobiscum,

While the keynote mostly presents the technical aspects of the game, it also discloses some sneak peeks of upcoming content. The wear and tear system and the gear customization options are in early development and planned for future content updates—however, they won’t be included in the upcoming one.

And of course, we can’t implement everything you suggest. Not only because it would be too much, but also because some of your feedback is great and smart but irrelevant to the game, some are contradictory - we really can’t make a single-player-mmo - and finally, there is a lot we agree with them, but we can’t implement them yet - yes we should be able to use either red or yellow onions for some recipes.</p><p>No matter what, this does not mean you should stop. In addition to the trailer, we announced another important bit of news: <b>Pax Dei will enter Early Access in spring this year. </b></p><h2><b>Why?</b></h2><p>Our game requires a community to come alive. In a sense, the recent Alpha was the first time we saw the game we’re making. The feedback we’ve received is invaluable in making sure we’re going in the right direction, knowing how to improve what we already have, and deciding what to build next. <h2>Greetings Paxians!</h2><p>Since we revealed Pax Dei a few months ago, the game&#39;s intended business model has been a recurring conversation topic in the community. Well, we’re sorry to say that this blog will not give you the full details about the monetization for Pax Dei. Because we haven’t figured it all out — yet, and that’s on purpose. We’re still away from the full release of Pax Dei, and we want to use the time ahead to see how players engage with the game and hear from the community before we lock the model.

So, what are all the words below about then? This is us sharing how we’re approaching this topic to start that conversation.</p><h2>TL;DR</h2><p>Ensuring we can sustain and develop Pax Dei, in the long run, is driving the way we think about monetization. With this in mind, Pax Dei business model at launch will look something like this:</p><ul><li><p>a core consisting of:</p><ul><li><p>a one-off initial purchase of the game.</p></li><li><p>a regular fee for maintaining active player status and in-game plot(s).</p></li></ul></li><li><p>supplemented with:</p><ul><li><p>free, but limited, access to discover the game.</p></li><li><p>fully optional additional services added down the line.</p></li><li><p>we’re also considering a Token (WoW) or PLEX (Eve Online) -like system.</p></li></ul></li></ul><img src="//images.ctfassets.net/96ostmeapxb7/7vaU9e2ceSlFNI8F1Kt1FQ/b295a17b2765e6b4287e9f695c3b2ab3/Monetization_trade.jpg?fm=webp&w=1024" width="1920" height="1080" alt="Monetization trade" /><h1>Sustaining the game - in it for the long run</h1><p>We’re building an MMO. Scale and persistence aren’t cheap. As importantly, we already have enough ideas to keep adding content and features to Pax Dei for years after the initial release. We’re looking for a business model that feels fair for players and allows us to deliver, over time, our full vision for the game. Our first goal when thinking about monetization is ensuring enough of a regular revenue stream to maintain and expand the game in the long run. </p><h2>The Rules</h2><p>While we still have many decisions ahead of us, there are already a few things we’re sure about. We call them The Rules. </p><ul><li><p><b>Rule n°1</b>: We don’t do direct monetization of performance or time skips</p></li><li><p><b>Rule n°2</b>: The in-game economy is 100% player-driven; what we sell must not compete with the value produced in the player-crafting economy. </p></li><li><p><b>Rule n°3</b>: We&#39;re transparent with our model: it&#39;s easy to understand what&#39;s on offer and easy to get in and out. (Even when it requires writing a wall of text to explain it.)</p></li></ul><img src="//images.ctfassets.net/96ostmeapxb7/mf6AJgZrTQjkYTK0sW3Q2/20476585852cbfb8b745aafe3afbd8fb/Monetization_plotsB.jpg?fm=webp&w=1024" width="1920" height="1080" alt="Monetization plotsB" /><h2>Housing &amp; handling inactive players </h2><p>Now let’s take a bit of a detour and talk about what we think (and our early testers seem to agree) is one of the most exciting features of Pax Dei: housing. </p><p>In Pax Dei, you’re building your home in the “real” world. In other words, the game allows you to claim land for your own usage, which is really cool! Whatever you’re building can be seen and shared with other players, and you can band together to build hamlets, villages, or even fully fleshed-out towns. We look forward to seeing what will emerge from allowing players to collaborate through this system.</p><p>It also creates a series of constraints:</p><ul><li><p>Whatever gets built on a given player’s plot must always be maintained - that’s costly (not to mention technically challenging</p></li><li><p>We need a system to free up land once players leave the game (or become ‘inactive’). This system will be crucial in keeping the world alive, full of activity and opportunities to meet friends, and avoid having areas of the game become ghost towns. ^^</p></li></ul><p>Therefore, we’ll need a very robust system to understand whether plots are active or
inactive —and we’ve decided to make it the core of our monetization.</p><h1>The core</h1><p>We, therefore, intend to introduce a recurring fee for maintaining active player status and in-game plots (following an initial duration covered with the original game purchase). This system will allow us to give players flexibility in choosing the domain size they want to enjoy in-game, along with indicating that they are actively using it — or that the space can be freed up for other players. It will also be a way for the most engaged players to support Pax Dei’s continuous development in the long run.</p><p>We have yet to fully determine the exact shape and form (and price!) this will take. The good old-fashioned subscription model is certainly something we’re looking at. Still, we are also considering other options, with an eye for balancing the simplicity of usage while allowing players to choose how they want to engage with the game.</p><img src="//images.ctfassets.net/96ostmeapxb7/70ySSmqZFHU9CVrVvgZSH8/feb3b235244e203c16d77eb5c5766790/Monetization_closeup.jpg?fm=webp&w=1024" width="1920" height="1080" alt="Monetization closeup" /><h2>Free access and other options</h2><p>Around this core, and over a not-yet-defined amount of time, we intend to develop a range of additional options. Let’s emphasize the word: “<u>options</u>.” None of what falls in this category should ever feel mandatory to enjoy the game. Things like:</p><ul><li><p><b>Free, but limited, access</b>: While we won’t release Pax Dei as a free-to-play, we’ll want to offer players a way to discover our world and its community for free before deciding to engage further. We’ll also want to limit free players&#39; potential impact on the world. Defining what those limits ought to be is still ahead of us.</p></li><li><p><b>Additional services</b>: Convenience and cosmetics are the areas to explore here. We haven’t yet precisely defined our offer, in part because we anticipate responding to the needs and appetite of the player community. A system for transferring avatars between worlds will undoubtedly be among the first items on this list.</p></li></ul><h2>Pay to Play</h2><p>Those of us who have spent enough of our professional lives working on EVE Online or World of Warcraft have been able to measure the benefits of offering a secure way for players to transact real money for in-game resources between themselves:</p><ul><li><p>It helps increase the overall player population and activity by allowing the busier members of the community to keep up with their fellow players with more free time while making the game more accessible to others.</p></li><li><p>It creates avenues for players to sponsor group activities in the game.</p></li><li><p>It’s an important mechanism to fight botting and other nefarious activities that will spring around every successful MMO.</p></li></ul><p>That’s why we’re considering offering, down the line, our own variation of the PLEX or WoW Token systems. To the members of the community that have concerns with such systems (yes, we are reading the conversations on Discord): our priority when designing that system will be to ensure it contributes to the player-driven economy and the game&#39;s long-term health. That’s why we made The Rules! <p>We received a lot of feedback and new questions after releasing our <a href="https://playpaxdei.com/en-us/faq/building" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Building FAQ</a> and <a href="https://playpaxdei.com/media/videos" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">videos</a>, so we decided to update it with a bunch of further questions you can find below (if you prefer digging into the extended FAQ, you can too).</p><p></p><h3>You mention &quot;plot&quot; several times. What is a plot exactly?</h3><p>Good question! A plot is a portion of land that belongs to a character and that you can &quot;claim&quot; in the areas open for building. This portion of land is circular and vast enough to build a house of reasonable size and a couple of smaller structures. When you&#39;re placing a plot, you&#39;ll be able to pick the plot location in the Heartlands pretty freely and see a preview of precisely what the area you&#39;re getting is like.</p><h3>How big are the Heartlands we&#39;re building in?</h3><p>We&#39;re creating a separate FAQ about the world and will cover this question in detail. The Heartlands are pretty big, and there are many.</p><h3>There are no doors or signs in the videos?</h3><p>The current game build doesn&#39;t have doors and signs, but yes, we want to have these as much as you do.</p><h3>Is there a height cap to how tall buildings I can make?</h3><p>Yes, but the structural integrity system will block you from making buildings tall enough to hit the cap. We want to enable you to make large multi-story houses, but at the same time, we don&#39;t want the game to feature skyscrapers, so the tallest buildings will be somewhere around what you&#39;d expect to see in the Middle Ages.</p><h3>Are the building pieces in the video final?</h3><p>The video we posted doesn&#39;t show all the blocks we have in the game, and we&#39;re still iterating on exactly what blocks we have, so please assume anything you saw in the video is subject to change.</p><h3>Can I build on water?</h3><p>Yes, we currently allow the plots to overlap water and probably will want to have this be the case long term. As you saw in the video we posted, lakeside properties are pretty awesome. In the current game build, you can place building foundation pieces underwater, as long as the bottom of the lake is close to the surface, so effectively you can build on the shore with slight overlap with water, but you cannot build let&#39;s say a bridge over a lake.</p><h3>I can&#39;t build outside of Heartlands, right? But what about PvP?</h3><p>You can&#39;t build outside of Heartlands in the current game version. We want to have this eventually, but PvP building destruction that works in an MMO is highly challenging to have work in a way that creates a good gameplay experience, so we haven&#39;t made this yet. We&#39;re working toward having a solid core game at launch, and we planned PvP building for a game update. Having said that, we absolutely want to have high-stakes PvP in the game launch version - it&#39;s just the stakes are not related to building. The reason not to have the houses you&#39;re building in Heartlands be part of PvP is that we want the base game to be enjoyable to even those who don&#39;t want to participate in PvP directly. We believe even the hardcore PvPers deserve a resting place in the world to regroup and gather forces in preparation for the next battle.</p><h3>Does the game have roads? How do those work?</h3><p>Yes, we have a pre-made road network, and we&#39;ll also cover this in more detail in the World FAQ. The short of it is: roads are intended for traveling the world, and you can&#39;t build on pre-made roads.</p><h3>How much can I build on a plot?</h3><p>We haven&#39;t yet determined how large the plots are, so it&#39;s impossible to answer this precisely. The balance we&#39;re looking for could be described as &quot;You can build quite a lot on your plot, but you will also want to work with your clan to use the combined land in your clan&#39;s plots as smartly as possible.&quot;</p><h3>Are there access controls in the plots?</h3><p>We have an access control system that&#39;s being integrated into the items, and it will give you reasonably granular control over who can access things in your plot. We don&#39;t have a feature to restrict people from walking on your land, but you _can_ build walls, so theoretically, your clan could wall up the village - as people did in the Middle Ages.</p><h3>Can I build on other players&#39; plots?</h3><p>Yes - depending on who allows you to do so. We&#39;re expecting most clans will set up their plots so all clan members can build on all clan plots.</p><h3>What if a griefer builds a plot next to mine or my clan&#39;s plots?</h3><p>We understand that players may encounter issues with plot placement, and we want to ensure that our players can resolve these conflicts. Our team has extensive experience working on multiple MMOs, and we are well-versed in the challenges that players can face.</p><h3>Can I modify the ground in the plot?</h3><p>We don&#39;t support this feature, but you can build the foundations to flatten the land.</p><h3>Can I get more plots somehow?</h3><p>In the current game, each player has just one plot, but we will eventually add ways in which you can get additional land.</p>

<p>Hey there, adventurer!</p><p>We&#39;re excited to announce the launch of our new <a href="https://playpaxdei.com/en-us/faq" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FAQ section</a> on the website! You can find it at the top of the navigation bar. This section is the go-to place for official information about Pax Dei, covering everything from general game information to specifics about the Alpha testing and our approach to language support. We&#39;ve also included a focus on the building aspect of the game. We will make some additions in the coming months (and perhaps, at a point, we will talk again about the pronunciation of Pax Dei).</p><p>All the questions in the FAQ were first published on our <a href="https://discord.gg/paxdei" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">official Discord server</a>, so if you want to be the first to know about any updates and Pax Dei-related news, join our public Discord channel. You&#39;ll get prime information about the game, official FAQs, and the chance to chat with the development team.</p><p>As for playtesting, we&#39;re currently running a Friends and Family closed alpha test under an NDA, so you have yet to hear much about it.
