The one tip you need to know: Pax Dei is designed as a collaborative game.

Pax Dei is a marathon, not a sprint. Build your economy, expand your crafting abilities, and embrace collaboration.

In other words, and we can’t repeat this enough, 

Pax Dei is more approachable if you play with others

More people can refill processing crafters—kilns, furnaces, etc. 

Resource spots can be discovered quicker. 

Everyone can focus on different crafts, speeding up group progress. 

Plots can be combined for shared crafting stations or outposts near resources. 

Different roles within the group allow everyone to focus on activities they enjoy, whether gathering, exploring, building, or managing resources. 

Pax Dei includes Discord integration for chat, allowing for better communication with other players around you and in clan-specific channels.

, there's a role for everyone and a player for every role! Whether you’re a gatherer, adventurer, or builder, working together enriches the experience. If you don’t have a clan yet, head to our Discord server to connect with like-minded players. 

even though it features a lot of gameplay similar to games in the survival genre. Unlike traditional survival titles, your character starts with minimal equipment and won’t starve from not eating. The world is alive and runs on its own, it doesn’t adjust the difficulty of any content.

For your first steps in the world of Pax Dei, follow these tips: 

Select a shard - Normal or RP. Population levels are indicated for each Home Valley

Scout for the perfect location for your home, prioritizing proximity to essential resources like 

such as deer and boars (for leatherworking, tailoring, and armorsmithing), 

 (used for tools, weapons, and armor). As a bonus, choose a spot near the Wildlands to access 

 to claim a plot and start building, and 

 for early-stage defense (TAB → Craft).

Be cautious in the mountains. Falls can be deadly, and retrieving your corpse is challenging. However, if you're near the vicinity of your corpse but can’t reach it, you can summon it by holding 

 to learn more about plots. In short, your plot is your base of operations—a home where you can place crafting stations and start building your dream setup.

 Look for areas near resources like clay, mining nodes, flax, or trees for charcoal. Proximity to PvP portals can also be useful for high-tier materials.

 Place foundations and crafting stations to get started. 

 Adjust permissions in the Plots tab to grant access to clan mates or friends. This will allow others to build on your plot and potentially destroy your creations. To change the plot’s permissions, equip your Construction Hammer, right-click to open the Building Menu, and select the Plots tab.

Choose wisely—your plot is where your journey begins!

How can you be sure you are in the right place? 

You can’t, as you might need to relocate at some point. 

 avoid overdeveloping your first plot unless you’re passionate about building. You may want to move later if you make new friends or realize your current location doesn’t have the resources needed for your preferred profession.

Now that you have a plot, start building your first crafting stations:

Armed only with this, you should be able to take on small Inquisition camps - careful, though, as you are not equipped to survive against 2 or 3 enemies at once. Defeating these camps could earn you valuable materials and unlock some gear pieces with spells.

When it comes to building in Pax Dei, the creativity and freedom on offer are vast and almost infinite. The community of builders within the game is passionate and dedicated, constantly pushing the limits of what's possible. We recently reached out to a few seasoned players to get their thoughts on building in Pax Dei. They’ve generously shared their tips, techniques, and insights to help you take your building skills to the next level. One of the most compelling aspects of building in Pax Dei is the sheer variety of possibilities. The game’s building system is intuitive, allowing players to craft structures that range from simple cottages to intricate castles and structures. What stands out is how you are encouraged to experiment. Players aren't confined to preset structures or limited design options; instead, they are given a toolbox filled with versatile pieces that can be combined in countless ways.

For many, the joy comes from the ability to create something truly unique. The satisfaction of discovering a new technique or crafting a structure that’s never been seen before is what keeps them wanting to build even more. Whether it's creating custom staircases from stone walls or designing a one-of-a-kind rooftop garden, the possibilities are endless.

Who hasn’t stumbled upon an artistic or creative structure during their adventures in the vast land of Gallia and wondered how this was achieved and, most importantly, if they could replicate it? Here are a few steps to reach your goal: 

Experimentation is key in Pax Dei. Don’t be afraid to test out different combinations of pieces and try new things. Start small - build a platform or a basic structure - and let your creativity flow from there. Sometimes, the best ideas come from simply playing around with the tools at your disposal.

The beauty of Pax Dei's building system lies in its attention to detail. Constructing the framework for a house is simple, but the real magic happens when you add those extra touches. Use wooden beams to create trim around windows, add overhangs to doors, or incorporate stone walls to frame a garden. These small details can transform a basic structure into something truly special.

Don’t let conventional design hold you back. If a wall doesn’t fit your vision, turn it into a doorway. If a corner looks awkward, consider making it a feature by adding a balcony or a spiral staircase. The game allows you to bend the rules—use that to your advantage.

Preparation is an essential part of the building process. While some players like to plan every detail with sketches, others prefer a more organic approach, allowing ideas to develop as they build. Regardless of the method, having a clear vision of what you want to achieve is important. Consider the environment where you’re building and how the structure will fit within its surroundings.

Location is also crucial. Many builders prefer cliffside locations with a view of a meadow or forest, as they offer both stability and aesthetic appeal. Others enjoy the challenge of building in the mountains or near water, where the terrain can inspire unique designs.

Even the most experienced builders face challenges. Complex structures like tall towers or intricate sculptures require careful planning, particularly regarding stability. One critical piece of advice is to think about the roof from the start. Ensuring that your structure has the necessary support from the ground up is essential, especially if you’re building something tall or elaborate.

Another tip is to embrace challenges. If something doesn’t work out as planned, see it as an opportunity to try something new. Some of the most impressive builds start as mistakes creatively adapted into the final design.

With those tips and your creativity, you’ll open yourself up to all the possibilities for building impressive structures in the game. Alone or with your friends. 

Stability is the backbone of any great build. Make sure to use sturdy materials like stone for the foundation, especially when building high. This will save you from headaches when trying to complete the roof or upper levels.

Lighting can dramatically change the mood of a building. Use lanterns, braziers, or hidden lights to highlight features or create a cozy atmosphere. Well-placed lighting can also make your structure stand out at night, adding an extra layer of beauty.

While focusing solely on making your build look amazing is tempting, don’t forget about functionality. In Pax Dei, your creations often serve a purpose—whether it’s a crafting space or a community area—so make sure they are both beautiful and useful.

The Pax Dei community is a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. Don’t hesitate to share your creations or ask for advice. Engaging with other builders can lead to new ideas and techniques you might not have considered, whether here on Discord or through different platforms.

There is a consensus on how wonderful the wooden beams are. Their main advantage is their versatility. You can make custom tables and chairs, trims to beautify your windows, sculptures, or even a gazebo.

Building in Pax Dei is more than just constructing walls and roofs; it’s about expressing creativity, solving challenges, and contributing to a living, breathing world. Whether you're a seasoned builder or just starting, these tips from the pros will help you make the most of the game’s robust building system. So, grab your tools, pick the perfect spot, and start creating your masterpiece in Pax Dei!

Building in Pax Dei: Tips and Insights from the Pros

, we said that Pax Dei is not a single-player game and that we designed it to encourage group play. This often gets misinterpreted as ‘it is not possible to play Pax Dei solo.’ It is not exactly what we meant. Single-player games are intended to be played alone, but 

In an MMO, there are other players—yeah, okay, that’s not breaking news—and their characters are bound to specific Worlds. This specificity draws a line between multiplayer games and MMOs; it is 

one of the core ingredients that makes MMOs unique

. The fact that your character is bound to a World means you will come across the same Clan and players regularly. In the long term, it creates a unique culture for each world.

Every MMO player has stories about their world, either because it was a kind of rockstar world where some of the biggest clans were competing, or because it was THE roleplay world, or the most welcoming to new players, or the one with the biggest dramas, etc.

Because of the building system and the size of the map, 

the persistence and the players' imprint in Pax Dei are particularly strong

—and here, we don’t even talk about what will happen once the economy is unleashed and the feudal system kicks in - and the solo players are part of this persistence.

It’s a fact that many players like to venture solo in MMOs, and Pax Dei is not an exception. If some players said that the game is, according to them, not playable solo, many have said the opposite and are enjoying their experience. So what’s the truth here?

Again, you can twist it the way you want, but Pax Dei is an MMO. And the difficulty can’t be indexed on solo players. Because of that, it will never be possible to enjoy every single aspect of the game playing entirely solo. However, there is a lot you can do. On top of the general difficulty, the game does not hold your hand, which can make it overwhelming to some. Finally, Pax Dei revolves around crafting and building, which means a lot of grinding. All in all, it can look like an impossible mountain to climb, but

 if you enjoy the slow pace, walking through the landscape, and discovering things by yourself

To end this (very) long introduction, we want to thank all the players who shared their experiences on Discord, Reddit, YouTube and others… As well as give a special shoutout to @Holydan and @Ancient Swamp Lord Grumpy Grim for their precious help while we were writing this article.

Now, let’s get into the specifics. Here are some of the best pieces of advice we gathered from solo players.

Chapter One: don’t get lured by the obvious spots!

Finding the perfect plot is probably one of the hardest things

 while playing solo, as you probably don’t want to be engulfed in the middle of a big Clan that calls dibs on all the resources in the area.

So you will want to avoid the obvious zones: 

Around the Petra Dei (the big standing stone where you first spawn);

Basically, all the places that catch the eye, especially if they are not too far from the Petra Dei, tend to be overly crowded. And if it is 

crowded, it means fewer resources and more people fighting for them

. You also need to think about the later game, not only the start. Having a short route to the wildlands and small enemy camps close by can become extremely valuable for farming metals.

 First, because, currently, you can’t remove trees entirely - they will come back through your foundations (Side note: this is a known issue that we are working on solving). If building a house around a tree can be really cool, building around ten can be tiresome. Second, because as there are different types of forests, 

your first axe won’t let you chop down pine trees

. So if you want a wood house and only just started the game, don’t put your plot next to a pine forest expecting easy wood gatherings. The map gives a lot of indication of the biomes and, after a while, you will know what biome hosts what resources.

So yes, finding a good spot can be tricky. And until you know the game very well, you will probably make some mistakes. So 

don’t overbuild on your first plot, start by learning the basics

, and unlock a few recipes and crafters. Once you reach the metal, you will know better where you want to create a more persistent base or you will just decide to only have several temporary bases, ideally placed to level up specific skills!

The inventory and the item stacks have been vastly increased - some even say too much, so 

 that will improve your health points, stamina, and regen is always smart.

Typically, while looking for your first spot, it can be extremely useful to 

grab the stones and clay you find on your way

 - like all of them. Gneiss rocks are easy to find close to the Petra Dei, but can be harder when you get away from it, at least until you can have your first pickaxe.

Pax Dei is not fast-paced. Things take time. Playing solo obviously makes the progression slower. On the other hand, you can become far more autonomous and have much better knowledge of how things interact together.

. Don't just wait for the processing crafters to finish processing stuff. You can gather flax or hunt for hides while the iron is smelting. If you focus on, say, tailoring, don’t neglect your charcoal kilns burning because you will need a ton of charcoal when you get to smithing!

Chapter Four: you can take some enemy camps, solo!


Of course, as a solo player don’t expect to go into the dungeon alone, but

 as soon as you can have a mix of mail and leather, you can start to take on the Inquisition camps

. You will have to be very careful with your pulls and be ready to run if things get hectic.

As for gathering and crafting, there is a lot to learn. Get familiar with how enemies attack, learn to pull with a bow, and use a shield to block and bash. 

Don’t be afraid to craft a LOT of wooden arrows

. They don't do a lot of damage, but they are very cheap, are enough to pull, and will help you level up your Bow skill.

Your blocking skill can also be critical as it has a huge impact on the mitigated damage. Check the different enemy camps, caves, and ruins. Some are easier than others and they often offer different rewards.

At this point, you will probably discover 

 and craft your first magic item. The world will then look different to your eyes.

To close this chapter, and to say the opposite of what we stated at its beginning: 

there are stories of players who manage to go solo into some dungeons

. How do they do that? They plan. They get prepared. They remain careful. It is not easy and it is very dangerous. When you die, the corpse run part can be extremely difficult. However, these players have proven it is possible.

Chapter Five: don’t be shy, interact with others!

Writing an article about solo playing to advise on non-solo playing can be surprising, but again: 

playing solo does not mean playing alone.

Here, we are not telling you to join a Clan, even if you can find some who accept solo players and even some who regroup mainly solo players. What’s the point? They share hints and materials and sometimes group together to make some dungeon runs.

the key point here is that you should not be afraid to interact with other players

. It can be a friendly neighbor with whom you will exchange pieces of advice or a random encounter in the forest that will point you to some gathering spots or a cave that hosts a rare mob. Perhaps you have a Clan in your Home Valley open to trading basic materials - clay, gneiss, wood… - for equipment.

An Iron Axe or Pickaxe can drastically ease your progression, and even just a little armor can greatly improve your survivability. It could also be a pick-up group that will help you farm a rare in an enemy camp.

, on Reddit or Discord, for example, and make alliances. All in all, it is up to you, but don’t forget: in an MMO, there is a point where interacting with others can be hard to avoid.

Chapter Six: Discord is part of the meta.

Perhaps you don’t know it, but when you purchase Pax Dei, you can obtain a 

. This role will give you access to channels dedicated to Early Access - and a nice orange color for your nickname. Here, you will find global channels like community-help and some shard specific channels where you can find trade opportunities, player-driven events, and more.

As Pax Dei develops, you can expect to see alliances being made, wars being declared, and lists of outlaws… An MMO is about the community, and Discord is a great place for it.

Everything starts with your first wood branch. Resources in Pax Dei are plentiful and diverse. If you run into something new, don’t hesitate to pick one up - it might unlock something new and unknown!

Some resources are “too hard” to collect. Don’t worry, better tools will come your way.

This is usually your second step to advance in Pax Dei. Crafting new items can sometimes unlock new recipes, so feel encouraged to build everything once! Some recipes might be skill-locked, so don’t forget to hone your skills along the way.

When you start building your home base, let your imagination fly! If you need some basic knowledge of how building works, here are a couple of quick guides:

By now, you’ve probably noticed that your woodcutting skills among others, have progressed quite a bit. In Pax Dei, Skills are kings and specializations are queens (or vice versa). You can choose to advance all your skills (good luck) or specialize in a profession to become a leatherworker, a blacksmith, or a world-renowned chef!

Magic exists in the world of Pax Dei! When you defeat certain named mobs in the game, you may find drops that allow you to craft enchanted gear and unlock magical spells and abilities.
