We recently unveiled our upcoming temporary Yule 

, and we’re happy to share that the event will run from December 17, 2025, after maintenance (around 11 am UTC), to January 13, 2026!

This month-long celebration will give you plenty of time to gather ingredients and craft our festive Yule recipes. To begin, you’ll need to craft (on the Log workbench) and equip your Yule Charm, which will unlock access to Yule-exclusive resources. If you unequip it, you won’t be able to see these resources. From there, you can explore all the seasonal recipes—and even prepare a few extra items to trade or sell once the event comes to an end. 😉

We’re looking forward to seeing your homes, villages, and market stalls transformed with seasonal decorations, and of course, your characters proudly wearing their new festive attire.

For our lore aficionados, we’ve also prepared a short text exploring the origins of Yule in Pax Dei and the symbolism of the goat.

The ancients said that in the First Winter, before people knew how to mourn or remember, the dead wandered.

The Veil was thin, but the paths were dark, and nothing guided the lost souls home. Even Meirothea, whose moonlight softened the night, could not illuminate every place where sorrow hid.

One evening, as she walked across the frost, Meirothea found a child’s spirit sitting beneath a bare tree. The child was cold, afraid, unable to speak their own name, for humanity had not yet learned a true language, only a handful of words, and none for grief or mourning.

Meirothea knelt and whispered, “Little one, follow my voice.” But the child could not rise. Their feet were tangled in shadows.

So, Meirothea called for her wolf. But the wolf’s steps were too heavy, and the shadows grew wary of his teeth.

Then, Meirothea called for her bird. But the bird’s wings could not reach the low places where sorrow pools.

So Meirothea called out a third time, into the stillness of the world: “If any creature knows the hidden roads, show them to me.”

From the dark roots of the tree, a small shape emerged. A creature with bright eyes, nimble hooves, and horns like twin crescent moons. It bowed to Meirothea, as though it had been waiting for her to speak.

The goat stepped to the child’s spirit and gently touched them with its horn. Where it touched, the shadows loosened. The goat turned, walking a path that had not existed the moment before, a path that wound between the thorns of sorrow and the deep drifts of forgetfulness. And the child followed. 

When they reached the Veil, the goat returned to Meirothea and bowed again. “Why do you help the lost?” the Redeemer asked. The goat did not speak, goats still rarely do, but it placed its forehead against her hand, and she understood: “Because the living rarely look downward, and the dead often do.”

From that day, the goat walked before Meirothea in all winter journeys. Its hooves found every hidden road. Its horns broke every snare of shadow. And its bright eyes reflected every soul who sought the way home.

So at Yule, we weave little straw goats to honor the First Guide. We place them in doorways, on hearths, or beside the fire or a lantern, believing the goat still walks unseen, clearing a path for the spirits of the departed.

And we say: “A wolf guards, a bird warns, but a goat leads you home.”

We would like to thank all players who provided feedback during the testing phase, as that allowed us to make adjustments and changes before deploying to live. We are still 

 in a dedicated thread and evaluating the situation. Further changes are expected over the next few days/weeks as we continue to adjust.

Please note that the balancing related to Mournels and the Shrines was changed temporarily in Arcadia for testing purposes and has now been rolled back. The update going live uses the intended balancing, where the Mournel hardness and health are higher than during the test, and the Shrine claiming costs are back to 200 Mournwood and 50k Gold.

Verse 5 also brings several gameplay and crafting updates, plus new signs and decorations to discover.

In-game temporary event - Celebrate Yule

We know many of you want more information about Verse 5 and the upcoming Feudal features, so we'd like to share more details and outline what's coming up.

As we’ve discussed before, we have plans for expanding Pax Dei’s PvP gameplay in new directions. The underlying goal for the game hasn’t changed - we’re making a social sandbox MMO with a player-driven economy, and we’ve always seen PvP as an integral part of the game. Our previous update reworked Lyonesse, making it larger in terms of size and design. We also added the Enchantment resource to give players more reasons to go there. Now it's time to add the ability for players to claim land and build.

Before jumping into the details, here’s a summary of what’s coming:

We’re introducing a new resource: Mournwood, which you can harvest from new Mournel trees that only appear in Lyonesse.

Mournel trees are very rare and will only appear in the world in the evening during regional peak game hours. You will see the spot where a tree is about to appear in the game map of Lyonesse a set amount of time before it spawns.

Mournel trees are very tough and have a ton of health, fully harvesting one will likely take the sustained effort of many players. However, Mournwood is given in stages, a single player can harvest it, even if fully chopping down the tree would take much longer.

Lyonesse will gain 12 new Feudal Shrines that can be claimed by a Clan Elders and the Alderman. Claiming a Feudal Shrine site costs both Gold and Mournwood. The sites have a Mournwood upkeep cost, with storage for up to a week’s worth of upkeep.

Claiming a Feudal Shrine allows you to place three plots at the site, which can be upgraded to host up to 22 plots.

You can set a Feudal Shrine your clan has claimed as your Petra Mea Home point, and you can use a spell that costs 20 Grace to fast travel to it. If you die near a Feudal Shrine your clan has claimed, you can choose to respawn there.

As ever, your feedback on this update is vital and will help us shape Pax Dei going forward.

A new type of tree, Mournels, will start spawning in Lyonesse after the update. Spawn locations are revealed ahead of time on the map, but a Mournel tree will only actually spawn if players are in the area. A notification will be broadcast in Lyonesse to all players in the zone when a tree appears. This means if you want to harvest Mournwood, you should make traveling to and securing the spawn point a priority.

Mournel trees will appear at regular intervals between specific times, depending on the day:

Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 6 PM-10 PM

EU shards (including Arcadia) are set to CET (UTC+1)

We've set these to maximize prime gaming times in each region.

Mournel trees come in three sizes, which affects how much you can harvest from a tree and how long it takes to chop one down. Trees are harvested in stages, with the player who makes the final hit at each stage gaining the resources from that stage. Mournel trees are tough to chop, it's wise to come fully buffed with a good quality axe capable of chopping a hardness 3 tree. Taking a tree down alone will take a very long time, fully chopping down a tree is much more likely with a Clan.

As a side note, switching between a tool and the previous weapon you wielded no longer incurs a cooldown, so switching to your primary weapon to defend yourself will now enable you to fight instantly.

Mournwood gathered from Mournels is an inventory item that can be stolen from your corpse if you die in Lyonesse.

Each of the four Provinces surrounding the central Lyonesse Province will have three Feudal Shrines. A Clan Elder or Alderman can claim a Shrine at the cost of 5000 Gold and 200 Mournwood. After claiming a Feudal Shrine, you have 24 hours to load more Mournwood into the fire at the center of the Shrine to retain control. The fire consumes 25 Mournwood each day and you can load up to 7 days worth into the fire in advance. The deposits are final and cannot be withdrawn.

When claimed, a Shrine allows a total of 3 plots to be placed on a perimeter around it. You can upgrade a Shrine and once fully upgraded, you can place up to 22 plots in the area. The upkeep for the Shrine does not increase with upgrades. Anyone in the controlling Clan can place a regular plot using one of their Plot Tokens next to the Shrine, so it’s up to the Clan to coordinate who does this.

If a Clan member is removed from the clan, the plots placed by this player instantly disappear from the site and items on those plots go to the player’s redeeming queue. If a Clan is disbanded, Shrine ownership is relinquished and the plots disappear similarly.

Each Feudal Shrine has a unique name and the Lyonesse map shows the locations of them all. After a Shrine is claimed, the name of the controlling Clan and that Clan’s heraldry are shown on the map.

You will be able to set a Shrine your clan controls as your home location for the hourly free Petra Mea Miracle, and you can also use a 20 Grace spell to fast travel to them. If you die close to a Feudal Shrine your clan controls, you can choose to respawn there.

When it comes to building fortifications, doors on plots in Lyonesse can only be opened by members of the Clan that controls them. Door opening is not replicated across game instances if the world area is instanced at the time, so you will not accidentally open the door to players you can’t see. We will expand the permission system around doors in other areas besides Lyonesse in the future.

Why do I want to have a site in Lyonesse?

Lyonesse is very rich in resources and features XP and gold bonuses for loot. Having a safe haven in Lyonesse will be very beneficial for a Clan.

How can I capture a site from another Clan?

Currently, there is no direct way to capture a site. However, due to upkeep, your Clan can make it hard for a controlling Clan to keep their sites if you launch a concerted effort to capture a large portion of the daily Mournwood spawns. Future updates might include direct means to contest the sites.

This update is the starting point for Feudal gameplay, and we’re looking to enable multiple Clans to come together to form an Alliance to hold a site together. When we discussed the Alliance features earlier with the player community, there were rightful worries about how we were planning to implement these. As such, we’re keen to see how the sites work with this update and discuss with all of you how best to enable sharing sites between Clans.

In the upcoming content update, Verse 5, you will finally be able to build in Lyonesse, the PvP Province, under certain conditions. Stay tuned as we’ll soon have more details to share! In anticipation of this new feature, we’re working on quite a few changes to plot management.

Let’s have a look at the new ways you’ll soon be able to 

expand your gameplay experience and secure more plots

We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear: you want to be able to 

, not only via Membership. With the next Patch that will be deployed in the coming days on Arcadia, the Public Test Shard, and before the end of November on all the live shards, we’re giving all players the ability to claim and maintain 

one plot using the in-game currency, Grace.

its remaining duration is less than one month.

You can also use a Token to extend its duration. In that case, once the first month of your plot (acquired with Grace) is over, it will become a standard plot.

If you don’t own a Grace plot, you can also extend the duration of an existing plot (claimed with a regular Plot Token) using Grace. This plot will then function as a Grace plot (no auto-renew, and you cannot claim another fresh Grace plot).

This new option is designed to give everyone a fair and sustainable way to secure land simply by playing, while allowing us to clean up unused plots, preventing the game worlds from filling up with abandoned plots, and ensuring there’s always space for new players.

The reason for not offering auto-renew with Grace is simply that, as an earned currency, many players also use Grace in gameplay (for Miracles, for example), and we have no guarantees of Grace being available when it’s time to renew a Plot. As such, it would be misleading to offer the option to auto-renew the plot. We’re thus offering you the option to extend the plot for up to two months in advance, which will make it easy to secure your plot as you play.

To make it easy for everybody to try it out, all existing players will receive 300 Grace when we release this feature on the live shards. You need to have created at least one character to receive that grant.

Moving forward, all new players will also receive 100 Grace with their first login.

Additionally, we plan to introduce the ability to 

 in the game shop in the near future, at a price of $/€4.99 per Token. Some bundle offers will also be available. We’ll share the full pricing details and the deployment date as soon as the feature is ready to release.

These offers are designed for players who prefer not to commit to a subscription, as well as those who want to expand their domain significantly to share it with friends, clan members, or allies.

Finally, we’re also developing a system that will allow players to

, which we’re currently testing. We want to thank you in advance for trying it out and sharing your feedback.

To help you get started, a detailed tutorial has been added in-game that explains precisely how the system works. We strongly recommend going through it, especially if you’re playing in a localized version, and letting us know if anything seems unclear.

When you log in after the maintenance, you’ll be able to spend the Plot Tokens that you received according to the Founder’s Pack you purchased for Early Access. Be aware that some players may see more Tokens than intended. This is a known bug that will be fixed at release. 

For Early Access, we decided to keep it in, so you can experiment with more Tokens for a little while.

Tokens are required not only to place new plots but also to sustain existing ones

. Overspending Tokens on new plots could prevent you from renewing your current plots, so use them carefully.

Placing a plot now creates a “Plot Slot” and consumes one Token

, and each Token keeps a Plot Slot active for one month. 

By default, Plot Slots will attempt to renew automatically

 once their time runs out, consuming another Token. You can disable auto-renew if you’d prefer to manage your tokens manually.

Plot Slot is not renewed, it becomes frozen

. A frozen plot cannot be built on, and if it isn’t renewed within three days, both the plot and its related Plot Slot will be automatically released.
You can of course release a plot at any time, as was the case before, and place a new one, free of charge, in the plot slot that is now empty, until the Plot Slot expires, of course.

When a plot is removed, whether you release it yourself or it expires automatically, the remaining time on that plot slot is preserved, allowing you to reuse it for a new placement later.

We’ve added more tutorials to make Pax Dei easier for new players. If you prefer to skip the full tutorial, we recommend opening the plot menu and checking out the dedicated tutorial there before disabling the rest.

We’ve made changes to how building light sources work by adjusting culling range and shadow casting. These improvements should help boost performance, particularly in areas with a lot of construction.

We’re thrilled to announce that the long-awaited Verse 4 is arriving on live servers very soon! Titled 

, this new Verse will be released as soon as tomorrow, September 10! Let’s get ready for some PvP content! 

The scheduled maintenance will begin at 10:00 am UTC, with an expected downtime of approximately 90 minutes across all live shards.

Now, without further delay, let’s dive into the content of Raiders of Lyonesse.

We’re making some big changes to the PvP zone, Lyonesse. First of all, the whole zone is much bigger to support the new gameplay. There are several unique landmark locations in the form of ruined old cities, hinting at the province's rich history. We’re also adding some new sites in the form of watchtowers, serving as convenient places for you to repair your gear and craft some items. Since the new Lyonesse is so big and we wanted to make Fast travel more consistent, we’re now enabling fast travel within Lyonesse between the ruined cities and province gateways. The Fast Travel points exist as Petrae Dei in the four corner areas of Lyonesse, and you’ll have to collect the Fast Travel points in each of these locations the same way as the Petrae Dei in other provinces.

Beware, a bigger zone means more riches to find, but also more foes to defeat! Get your swords ready!

To give each of you a good reason to travel to Lyonesse, we’re adding two new unique resources you can only find in the PvP-enabled areas. Ambergrasp and Canonite are very scarce in the area and sought-after by Zebians patrolling in Lyonesse, so be prepared to be on the lookout for the Residual Harvesters collecting the resources on your behalf. The biggest spoils will be found on their bosses, in PvE sites across the area.

The new resources found in Lyonesse can be refined in the Alchemy and Jewelcrafting skill trees and combined into Sanctified Oil, which comes in four tiers, ranging from +50 to +125 points of Item Power boost. The oil can be applied to any item with Item Power to permanently boost all the item's stats.

We’re making changes to the Items icons, introducing a more visually intuitive system, and making it easier to instantly recognize both the quality level and tier of an item at a glance. For more details, please see our dedicated 

Quality will now be shown in a gradient of color in the top half of the icon and also in the segmented outer ring of the new symbol.

The tier is indicated by the segmented inner ring of the symbol. Filled segments show the tier count.
